Nyungwe Forest National Park is one of Africa's oldest rainforests, dating back over 200,000 years. This biodiversity hotspot protects 13 primate species including chimpanzees, colobus monkeys, and 300+ bird species. The famous canopy walk offers a bird's-eye view of this ancient ecosystem.

Best Time to Visit

Chimpanzee tracking is possible year-round, but the dry seasons (June-September and December-February) offer easier hiking conditions. The wet season brings spectacular epiphytic orchid blooms and fewer tourists.

Canopy Walk Experience

The Canopy Walk is a must-do in Nyungwe — suspended 70 meters above the forest, you'll walk 160 meters across a swaying bridge with 360-degree rainforest views. Book morning slots for best wildlife viewing. Tickets available at Uwinka Visitor Center.
